The Hunter…
Dare O’Shaughnessy had the world in the palm of his hand. A man known and feared for his ruthlessness, his word was law. The last word he ever expected to hear was no. Until he met her.
The Prey…
Aya Smith despised the ruling class who looked down on hardworking people like her. Sick of being treated unfairly by laws that protect the wealthy and punish the poor, she takes a stand but soon realizes, she might have crossed the wrong man.
The Game…
Created as a government program to assist in the repopulation of the country when an untested drug wipes out millions of women, The Run eventually evolves into something much more sinister. Now played for the amusement of the super rich, women down on their luck find themselves the prizes of sadistic masters.
Aya is forced to volunteer for The Run, and Dare, the most sadistic of all, places her in his crosshairs. She will belong to him, body and soul. But when he catches her will she succumb to his mastery, or will he find more trouble than he bargained for?

I like many of this authors works, but this one fell short for me.I liked the general concept of the story, with women being in short supply, and guys having to compete for them.
However, it didn't work for me in a couple of ways.
First if women are in short supply, you would think they would be valued and maybe even horded, but in this book they are used like used tissue. It just really didn't make a great deal of sense to me. As a guy, I can tell you, if I got my hands on a woman in this situation, I wouldn't toss her away like garbage (talking hypothetical here, I don't believe in forcing women).
I could have gotten past the first issue, but for me to enjoy a book I have to like the characters, they don't have to be perfect, but they have a something you cheer for. In this case I didn't, especially Dare.
Spoilers
I got to the point I was hoping Dare would get a bullet in his head, his destruction of the lead female's family business and the arrest of her uncle was bad enough. But during the run the guy hands an eighteen year old girl to sadist knowing she would be tortured and brutally raped ... at that point he became road kill to me. He then rapes the lead female -- sorry if you tell a woman you will let her uncle die if she doesn't have sex with you, it is rape in my book ... and I am a guy.
The fact the author in this case had the female falling in "love" with him was unbelievable, unless it was his money she loved .. because there was NOTHING about his character which was redeemable. He lacked character, he was cruel, and he wasn't even honest within the society he supposedly followed (He cheats in the Run).
I think the author would have produced a better story if the lead male wasn't a complete scumbag and wasn't rich (I have nothing against people being rich ... I just think the fact 90 percent of these stories has a rich guy, it gives the message money is the first thing women look for in these stories ... especially in this story, since like I said the guy was scum).
If the author had to make the guy rich then having a personality like Foster would have made more sense.
I like this author and will read some of her other works, but in this case I think it was a miss.

Run eBook Eve Vaughn Gwen Lane Reviews
This was an interesting dystopian/sci-fi type of "romance" but of course we don't get to really see anything remotely romantic till the end of the book...it's more of the "she falls in love with her captor and he changes because of her" type thing.
I have seen where this story is compared to a sexy Hunger Games and I agree it reads a bit like that, but with a bigger bite and of course, a ton of non-con and depraved sexual activities taking place in a world where women are treated like sex slaves and the rich men rule with disgusting glee.
I liked it enough to read it all in one sitting (I was praying the mysterious Dare would redeem himself) and was glad I did. A good one for those who like dark captive books in a futuristic setting.
**** 4 **** "bending his will to see the light" stars
Wow! I didn't want to like this book. Neither will you, but the author did a masterful job.
Aya meets Dare after he decides he's going to get her at any cost. He's rich, powerful, does what he wants to who he wants, and when he wants to. He wants Aya. This book is set in the future, sort of. I really never figured the exact timeframe out and I honestly didn't care. Neither will you.
A horrific drug hurts the female population and women are often taken because their numbers are so few. They are sometimes placed in events called runs, where they are more often than not abused. They're enslaved and often raped. Horrible. I know, right. When Aya refuses Dare he forces her to go this route. The reason is a well thought out part of the plot by the author. It was believable.
Dare finally gets Aya. Something happens when he does. He falls for her. He's obsessed. Things spiral out of control because he's obsessed and he losses her.
Aya starts over again with her uncle. Dare still wants her and is obsessed with her but things are different. He knows he can't win her back by forcing his will. You're honestly not sure if he is capable.
Pros
Redemption story.
Gritty!
In a dark way the sex scenes are hot.
Dare is dark but sexy.
Aya is strong throughout.
Great plot.
Alpha male. A bit scary but alpha.
Not predictable.
The story within the story.
Extra characters add to the story.
The author is masterful, because there is no way you should like this story, but you will. That in itself is amazing.
Cons
I didn't want to like this book because of the topic. It's a dark topic.
